Crisis Management

You may have been drawn to this page as the result of the sudden loss of a key employee, a rescinding of funds or a similar unexpected event, in which case you should call right away.

However, most crises do not arrive like a bolt of lightning. Most crises are the result, quite frankly, of normal non-profit efforts to play nice and just get by. It’s easy to either miss the red flags that warn of needed course adjustments, or to assign them to the back burner for later attention. But when pots are left on the stove too long, fires break out.

At ALI, we’re exceptional at putting out those fires.

Our role, regardless of the nature of crisis, is to work with you and your stakeholders to identify enduring solutions, define methods of implementation, and empower your team to be a positive force in service of your mission.

What are some signs that you're organization may be in crisis or heading toward it?

  • you're on this page and you've read this far

  • rapid employee turnover or declining employee satisfaction

  • difficulty filling positions

  • an ongoing cycle of more tasks than man-hours

  • board attrition or hostile board relations

  • lack of meaningful board involvement

  • loss of clarity or focus on the mission

  • declining revenues or increasing shortfalls

  • declining foundation support

For performance groups, signs of developing crises may include:

  • losing/missing out on gigs

  • losing rehearsal time to unresolved business, money or personal issues

  • board disinterest

  • the development of “factions” among your stakeholders

  • declining artistic quality

  • lack of effective mechanisms for dealing with the needs of the individuals and the group as a whole

  • loss of a member or members

ALI is a broad based consultancy serving non-profits at the intersection of the Arts, Education and Social Services
